wrappin' up Wednesday no.4 & some muffins... ♥

i made sour cream chocolate chip muffins this morning

at 6am.

now don't get me wrong
i'm not that woman who's up at the crack a dawn
baking bread for the family's daily consumption ...

:)

but i would like to be
not really the baking bread part, but the happy early riser part
i've been feeling a tug on my heart lately to wake up earlier ... to be happier when i get my girls outta bed, to not walk around in a fog for an hour while trying to figure out how i'm going to fit oddly shaped lunch items such as green beans and cheese into a kitty cat bento box ...  i want to be cheerful and have a happy heart ... and i'm realizing that i need to get up early ... have some quiet time before i interact with my family, and not after they're all gone for the day and i've had 2 melt downs over dirty gym clothes and forgotten socks
...

i'm not totally there yet, but i'm moving in the right direction

"...to exchange whispers with God
before I exchange shouts with the world"
~Lysa TerKeurst

then i read this verse in Proverbs the other day that made me laugh out loud
" how long will you lie there...when will you get up from your sleep? "
proverbs six.nine

ok ok ... got it ... i'm up

:)

i wrote it out and clipped it onto my message board in the kitchen
a reminder that God certainly does have a sense of humor ...

oh and the muffins were yummy! recipe is here

  1. I agree!! I've been struggling with needing/wanting to get up earlier to have my quiet time with God....but it seems I never do get up and then I'm in a rush to get things done. I'm definately going to put this Scripture on my board to remind me. Thanks for the encouragement!!

  3. Jaime...I now get up with my husband at the once crazy to me hour of 5:50am. It makes a huge difference being able to have quality time with each one of my family members. I know enjoy my second cup of coffee with the kids after my first with my husband. Well worth it...Smiles..Renee

  4. I cherish those early-rise mornings, too. Often my oldest son, who is 7, gets up with me. I don't mind though - he reads or eats his breakfast quietly beside me. A little calm before the storm - the storm being my hubby and the other 2 kids!!

  5. LOL... I'd baked some muffins yesterday... not at 6 am but more likely 8 pm! And they were yummy too! But mine are the vegan kind... molten choc vegan muffins!!! Yummy! I think I am going to eat one right now! :-)
    Enjoy your day!

  6. I'm trying to make this a daily habit too. My oldest has to get up at 6 and even though I don't have to, I like to be up with her so she has some company and so I can spend some time with her. <3

PS. I am new to following your blog and I absolutely LOVE it!

  7. doesn't waking the kids up for the day so much better when WE are happy and 'in the moment'?? We've been on the same path apparently girlie! happy day to you!

  8. I hear ya - I am NOT a morning person!

Have you tried doing some of the work at night? It always helped me to do things like pack lunches as much as possible and have the kids pick out their clothes the night before.

And my quiet devotional time is always at night - I seem to hear Him better then. (and sleep better!)

    1. so glad i'm not alone on this :):)
i sometimes do try to get stuff out of the way at night, but much of my evening hours are spent catching up on email, writing blog content, or just trying to finish a project that's over-due! it is nice to wake up and have alot of it done, i agree! thanks for sharing ♥ much love

  10. Oh, I have always wanted to be an early riser . . . but have never quite conquered it! Now that we have an empty nest and we both work from home, my husband and I get up together. It's nice - very nice - but still not very early! LOL

  12. Oh I just love this and SO needed to read it today! I am such a night owl but mornings are…tough (understatement of the year), especially with three boys (I am "raising up ruffians" - haha)! My "31 Days" series on my blog this month hasn't helped in the sleep department either! Inspiring but tiring! So very happy to have found your blog and I look forward to reading more posts. And I am now thinking my own post can wait until tomorrow so maybe I can get some better sleep and try to wake up earlier!! :)
    Thanks for this!

  13. I read your post and was inspired by it. I am one who has to have 2 cups of coffee before I can be coherent. What you said is so simple and I just love it. Thank you for writing what is on your heart.

  14. Thank you Jaime so much for this post, not so much for the muffins, but for the reality you shared. I think we all need to arrive at this place with our "heart strings tugging," because thats when we will sincerely wake up to be with the Lord, not wake up to get through another day.
You've posted a delicate, timely reminder, and I'm grateful. So glad I made it to this blog tonight, after such a busy day,

    Thanks,
    Shirley
